OH SO CLOSE- Girls edged in District Championship
Alissi Uasike scored 12 for the Lady Leopards
In a fantastic basketball game that came down to the final shot, the Lady Spartans topped the Lady Leopards 48-47 to win the SCAC District Championship. That ends an 8 game winning streak for Zillah’s girls. No team led by more than 6 points and there were numerous lead changes as both teams had an opportunity to win the game. With Granger down by one point, Sam Zapien’s shot fell off the rim, and it looked like Alissi Uasike would clear the rebound, but it was knocked out of her hands and into the hands of Emily Carpenter who put it in from 4 feet out. Zillah was able to manage a final shot, a 15 foot runner from Whitney Winters, but it fell off the front of the rim.
Alissi Uasike led Zillah in scoring and rebounding, she and Caitlin Myers each finished with 12 points. Myers hit four 3-pointers. Abbie Ziegler paced the Lady Leopards in the first half hitting 3 from outside the arc, she finished with 9 points.
Both teams will resume their season on Wednesday, March 3rd in the WIAA 1A State Basketball Tournament in the SunDome.
